May 6th, 2021, the European Union, under its coffee support program named EU-Coffee Action for Ethiopia (EU-CAFE), handed over 42 field vehicles to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA). These are destined for distribution to 28 high potential coffee production Woredas and the coffee research system to enable proper coffee extension and research service delivery. The ECTA will soon distribute the vehicles to four coffee growing regions including Oromia, SNNP, Sidama, Amhara (labelled future region for coffee expansion) and the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre (JARC).

In the past 40+ years, the European Union has been supporting coffee sector development in Ethiopia with over 122 million Euro (nearly 5.5 billion birr) investments mainly focused on productivity, quality, marketing improvements as well as sector governance. Throughout this time, the projects promoted interventions that foster increased earnings and fair distribution of sector proceeds to actors along the value chain.

The driving motto remains to enable the unique Ethiopian Arabica coffee to maintain its proper place in the global coffee market.
